Member of the Month: November

Member of the Month: November

He may be quiet at times, but his work ethic speaks volumes!!! Brandon has come into our family and completely turned into a monster. Every day he puts in work and then stays after to work on other things as well. He has been a great addition to this family! Here he is:

Tell us about yourself:

My name is Brandon Zurek, I’m 30 years old, and I was born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska. My beautiful wife, Lanae, and I moved to Waxahachie two years ago. We are elated to announce that we are expecting our first child in May 2015. We also have two rescue pit bulls that we adopted from the animal shelter in Omaha a few years ago and we’d adopt 10 more if we could. I currently work as a Financial Manager for the premier storm restoration company in the United States, Roofing & Restorations Services of America. In addition to my work as a Financial Manager, my wife and I are in the process of starting a real estate investment company.

I have numerous, and quite varied, interests and passions. First and foremost, I love spending time with friends and family. I enjoy traveling, both stateside as well as abroad, and my favorite destination to-date is Costa Rica. I am a professional spectator of mixed martial arts and collegiate and senior level wrestling. I am a big proponent for continuing education and personal growth. One of the fields that I value learning and practicing in the most is health and wellness. I have always been active and interested in educating myself on healthy living but I took my healthy lifestyle to another level last year. In the footsteps of my beautiful and brilliant wife, I transitioned to a vegan, plant based diet and it has been the best thing I have ever done for my mind, body, and spirit. In conjunction with a nutritionally, environmentally, and emotionally conscious diet I love anything that combines activity with the outdoors. I’m kind of like a hyperactive 12 year old at heart. Whether it be biking, hiking, kayaking, running, long boarding, wake boarding, or other, if it gets my blood pumping and I can enjoy it out in mother nature, count me in.

What has been your experience at ANCF:

My experience at ANCF has been fantastic. The gym is full of unbelievable people. The coaches are passionate, and they’re always there to help you get to the next level. All of the staff truly cares about the members and their progress. The fellow members of the ANCF family are welcoming, supportive, and just genuinely good people. The community is tight knit and the atmosphere is really positive and upbeat. No other gym compares.

What is your favorite workout/moment:

I don’t have one particular workout or moment that shines above the rest. However, there is a similar moment, or rather sensation, that is experienced during some of the more intense workouts that means everything to me. It signifies why I’m really in the gym pushing day in and day out. Why I embrace the suck and grind it out. And its not about six pack abs or bigger muscles. It’s to challenge myself and overcome. It’s about digging deep and proving your body and mind are capable of more. It’s about heart and spirit. When your body is telling you to give up or slow down and all that is going through your head is excuses on why you should stop and rest, but you don’t give in, you persevere and conquer. That’s what I’m really there for and ANCF provides that sense of accomplishment to me regularly. In addition to my personal sense of accomplishment, at any point in my workouts I can look to my left and right and see a room full of brothers and sisters that are sharing that same experience. That’s what its all about. The value of my membership is realized every time myself or someone else in that room is able to accomplish something that they previously thought impossible.

What is your most embarrassing moment:

Unfortunately for you and fortunately for me, I don’t have any horror stories that are going to traumatize me for life, but the whole initiation dance ritual was kind of embarrassing at the time. Nothing breaks the ice like being newly introduced to a room full of strangers and having to get your Dougie on!
